  • My Grandpa Oren Stiver was the caretaker for the little white church just outside of Juneau Pa called St Marks..It was his pride and joy..On sunday mornings in the little church, My fondest memories was watching my Mom and her sisters sing old gospel hymns in perfect harmony,at least perfect to me.. My Parents were married there..When Grandpa died the deed for the church and its property got misplaced and lost..Somehow it got bought out from under the congregation that was remaining under dodgey terms..Now its a machinery shed or storage facility and a mess..Bring's a tear to my eye when I go by, which isn't often..My Grandpa was a great man and my best friend and I miss him dearly..He worked in the mines when they used black powder and hand drills, picks and shovels, for pennies a ton during the depression..If you didn't load coal you didn't get payed..He was a short man with big biceps, but to me he could move mountains..He was a kind gentle man that loved horses and God, and I learned a lot from him..Remember your Roots and don't be ashamed of where you came from.. Google Street View 3188 Juneau Road, Punxsutawney, PA and drag it 180 degrees from left to right for a Kodak moment
